- Job Description for Building Information Modeling (BIM) Design Coordinator- B.E CIVIL/B.ARCH (5-7 YEARS)
A building information modeling (BIM) coordinator coordinates the process of generating and managing digital models of places; building information models are virtual files that help with decision-making during the building process. The building information modeling coordinator must be well-educated in not only the industry in which they work, but in architecture generally as well.
Building information modeling coordinators typically work in an office manufacturing, designing, reviewing, revising and implementing building information models. They also work with (and need an extensive knowledge of) the software that produces these three-dimensional building models. Aside from time spent in the office, a building information modeling coordinator also likely spends substantial time at job/build sites to inspect the project and witness progress as it happens; the coordinator can compare real-time progress to the building model plan and revise when needed.
In addition to creating, revising, and inputting business information models, the coordinator might also supervise other employees working with building information models. Therefore, it is essential they have the verbal and written communication skills to succeed in this position. Previous experience in a similar role is generally required or preferred. Additionally, BIM coordinators must work well in a group setting, as well as on their own with minimal supervision.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) Coordinator Tasks- Facilitate construction by applying BIM and CAD technologies in the design phase.
- Offer cross-team support for BIM software.
- Ensure all models are compatible and BIM data is available to all project participants.
- Collaborate with the design team and other departments to identify goals and communicate procedural changes
- Strong knowledge in coordination of services.
- Knowledge in Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD MEP,
- Knowledge of basic construction processes and procedures.
- Advanced PC skills, specifically MS Windows Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Duties & Responsibilities:- Own communication between the different MEP trade disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Piping) for all aspects of routing coordination including the integration of the trade field teams with the trade detailing teams.
- Coordinate with all stakeholders to manage the resolution of issues with the inputs to the detailing process.
- Complete Quality, Coordination and Clash audits on trade routing plans and work proactively with contractors to resolve issues.
- Monitor that the routing design is implemented in the field per the routing plan.
- Ensure all lessons learned from field clashes are implemented on the next routing plan.
- Review 3D Models from consultants and contractors.
- Conduct clash detection and visual walkthroughs using Navisworks Manage.
- Audit and review models in Autodesk Revit.
- Hold weekly coordination meetings with project team members.
- Early design review and constructability analysis.
- Assist contractors in providing solutions to achieve a routing plan free of conflicts.
- Manage/Update BIM Project Documents.
- 3D Model Quantity Extraction/Verification.
- 4D Scheduling/Simulation using Autodesk Navisworks
- Qualifications:
- Associates degree or higher in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction preferred. A combination of training and or work experience may be considered in place of formal education.
- Minimum of 1+ years in Construction Design and Coordination.
- Knowledge in Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD MEP,
- Knowledge of basic construction processes and procedures.
- Advanced PC skills, specifically MS Windows Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of BIM methodology and an interest in Construction Technology.
